Student suspended after failing to land prom date with Miss America

You can’t blame a guy for trying but you can suspend his backside apparently!

Reigning Miss America Nina Davuluri recently visited Central York High School in Pennsylvania to give a speech about the importance of diversity. Senior Patrick Farves, 18, took the opportunity to invite Nina to be his date to his Senior Prom as he asked her in front of the student assembly while presenting the beauty pageant queen with a flower.

The students cheered, (almost) everyone had a good laugh including Miss America – who then went on and finished her presentation.

In response to Patrick’s gutsy shot at glory the school punished him with 3 days of in-school suspension. It turns out that Farves wasn’t so secretive about his plans before hand and the school brass caught wind of his desires. They warned him not to interrupt Davuluri but he went ahead and did it anyways – and was punished accordingly.

When Nina caught wind of what transpired afterwords she issued an official statement defending Patrick via the Miss America Organization’s official Facebook page:

“On Thursday, a student invited me to prom and gave me a flower while I was giving a presentation in York, Pennsylvania. I was flattered by the gesture although I am unfortunately unable to attend due to my travel schedule. I later learned of the disciplinary action taken and reached out to the school in hopes that they will reconsider their decision. Meeting and interacting with students across the country has been an important and rewarding part of my year as Miss America. I always encourage students to follow their dreams through education, and I’m inspired daily by the enthusiasm and aspirations of the bright young adults I have the pleasure of meeting through my travels.”

The school wasn’t moved by Miss America’s call for justice arguing that breaking a rule is breaking a rule and that Farves’ actions were no different.
