VIDEO: The INTIMIDATOR vies for coolest puzzle ever made

Sometimes I come across videos that are so amazing they just demand to be posted.  Artist and sculptor GarE Maxton’s masterpiece “The INTIMIDATOR” is the subject of one of these clips.  What you see above is a hand crafted single shot .45 caliber muzzle loading pistol with laser sighting.  That alone would be awesome but what makes this piece mind blowing is that it’s hidden within a specially designed cube puzzle that took Maxton well over a year to create.

Sometimes it’s better to just let the video do the talking.  Here is the official promotional video for “The INTIMIDATOR” from Maxton via his YouTube channel in which you see the puzzle disassembled and the pistol subsequently assembled:

“The INTIMIDATOR” is appealing on so many levels.  The function and form are brilliant and the symmetry and aesthetic of the weapon itself is incredible.  Some of the specs for this puzzle as provided by GarE Maxton’s website are:

“The INTIMIDATOR”

Made from: Brass, stainless steel, aluminum, bronze, magnesium and steel.

In it’s cube form it’s dimensions are 8″ tall x 5″ wide by 4″ deep.

Over 125 separate pieces that include standard notched pieces, cap screws, springs, threaded parts, cylinders, hex bits and numerous circular borings to obtain the locking fit for two different assembly procedures.

Integrated into the sculpture are a customized set of tools, all necessary hardware, 45 caliber bullets, a standard sight, a laser sight, a canister containing black powder pellets, a secure storage area for 209 shotgun primers, a spent primer removal tool and a ramrod for loading the bullets.

If you go to Maxton’s website you can order THE INTIMIDATOR but expect to wait at leat two years for creation and delivery. As for the price I can’t even begin to imagine. While you’re there check out his other great puzzle sculptures as well.
