VIDEO Neil Diamond performs Sweet Caroline at Fenway opener

New York Yankees at Boston Red Sox

What is better than opening day Red Sox vs. Yankees at Fenway Park?  How about Neil Diamond singing “Sweet Caroline” in person in the middle of the 8th inning!  In a usual off-season of trades and scheming for the two biggest-budget MLB teams; the Boston Red Sox and New York Yankees, Boston may have made the best move in bringing in Diamond to perform on the diamond.

In a game that found the Red Sox trailing at one point 5-1, the boys from Beantown must have known that the arrival of the man was soon to come.  A rally was on and the Red Sox went on to win 9-7.  Am I insinuating that it was the power of Diamond?  Absolutely I am!

The man not only brought the crowd to its feet, but in one grand move set off what may be the best fashion statement of 2010. Take notice at the end of the clip to the back of Diamond’s sports coat. It reads “Keep The Dodgers In Brooklyn.” Now there is a man that knows his baseball!

Here’s the clip. You know the words (and if you don’t we have them below) so sing along:

Where it began, I can’t begin to know when
But then I know it’s growing strong
Oh, wasn’t the spring, whooo
And spring became the summer
Who’d believe you’d come along

Hands, touching hands, reaching out
Touching me, touching you
Oh, sweet Caroline
Good times never seem so good
I’ve been inclined to believe it never would

And now I, I look at the night, whooo
And it don’t seem so lonely
We fill it up with only two, oh
And when I hurt
Hurting runs off my shoulder
How can I hurt when holding you

Oh, one, touching one, reaching out
Touching me, touching you
Oh, sweet Caroline
Good times never seem so good
Oh I’ve been inclined to believe it never would

Ohhh, sweet Caroline, good times never seem so good

What an AMAZING way to kick off the 2010 MLB season!
