VIDEO D.C. area anchor slips up following Obama’s bin Laden speech

Will Thomas is weekend anchor at Fox 5 in Washington D.C.

I, like most folks this morning, had my mind blown discovering that some bad uniformed rascals infiltrated a Pakistani strong hold and killed the most wanted man in the world Osama bin Laden.  “Wow,” I thought, “That’s pretty incredible.”

Well it still is pretty incredible but not as life altering a piece of news as it would have been for those who watched Barack Obama’s speech last night via the Fox News afilliate in Washington D.C.  As Obama made his way down the White House from the podium the news person summarized the President’s speech by stating that,

“President Obama speaking from the East Room of the White House telling the nation and the world President Obama is in fact dead.”

Here’s that footage, roll it!

Thank goodness our man, Will Thomas of Fox 5 Washington D.C., had a co-anchor, Maureen Umeh, who reminded him that the man who just told us about Osama bin Laden’s death is in fact not dead.  So I’m wondering if some silly news staffer pulled a Veronica Corningstone and Ron Burgandy’d this poor soul with a little teleprompter change?

Thomas is a well-respected news reporter who has been honored with Emmy awards for his reporting including investigative journalism of the Klu Klux Klan and is a proud graduate of San Jose State University.  He was also the 1st place winner of the prestigious Willian Randolph Hearst National Journalism Competition.  We all make mistakes, but for those brave enough to work in front of the camera those mistakes are forever recorded.
