VIDEO 15-year-old Chad Holley run over and beaten by Houston police

Chad holley being beaten

What you are about to see is one of the most disturbing examples of police violence caught on video in recent memory.  The footage features 15-year-old Chad Holley fleeing from police when he is ran over by a police car.  While he laid on the ground after being struck by the patrol car Holley is beaten, kicked and punched repeatedly by several police officers.

Needless to say, this is extremely violent and difficult to watch footage not suitable for young children:

This event took place last March but the video was only recently released to the public.  Following an internal investigation seven officers were fired.  Since then two of those officers appealed the decision successfully and have returned to their positions.

The video has remained under wraps partly because Harris County District Attorney Patricia Lykos opposed its release feeling that doing so might prejudice potential jurors and force four of the indicted officers’ current trials to be moved out of the county.

The recent release of the video is a controversy unto itself as a Houston area activist known as Quanell X released the clip to area news outlets.  He stated:

“I will show my people what they deserve to see, and let the public see what you don’t want them to see.”

So what is your opinion about the concealing of this video.  Was it right for Mr. X to release the video perhaps jeopardizing the prosecution’s case against the officers in question?  Should the footage have been made available to news outlets much earlier by the authorities?
