The 2010 Electronic Entertainment Expo., or E3 as it is more commonly known, is the annual video game conference and show at the Los Angeles Convention center and a showcase for all the latest games and technologies. Because of its growing popularity among fans it has become nothing short of a surreal spectacle with celebrities, actual size video game mascots, and performances by the likes of Usher sandwiched between a seemingly endless string of hi-tech demonstrations and corporate sales pitches.

Though it is only one day into the three-day affair, I thought I might start compiling some of the best and funniest images from the event! Right now it’s just the Top 5, but that may grow over the next couple days if the photos continue to be as wacky and entertaining as these!

Who wouldn’t want their picture taken with a gas-masked killing machine? This particular two-legged weapon of mass destruction is from Sony’s Killzone 3, the first console shooter made for 3-D televisions. Killzone 3 will be available in February 2011. (Photo: REUTERS/Phil McCarten)

The creative force behind half of the movies and a quarter of all the video games being made today is Marvel legend Stan Lee. Over his 60-plus year career he has been the brainchild behind such enduring comic book characters as Spider-Man, the Fantastic Four, the X-Men, the Avengers, Iron Man, the Hulk, Thor, Daredevil, Doctor Strange and many more! At 87 he still gets out and about, including making appearances at events like E3. (Photo: REUTERS/Jason Redmond)

Not only was there an actual Sweet Tooth the clown from the “Twisted Metal” gaming series at the convention, but they also had his infamous ice cream truck, the only vehicle to have survived through every incarnation of the game! The latest version, for Playstation 3. was the last thing unveiled by Sony on the first day of the conference. There is no set date for its release yet, but it will ship some time in 2011. Nothing summed up the ultra-violent and boredom-intolerant spirit of modern gaming more than this image of Take-Two Interactive Chairman Strauss Zelnick in a stuffy suit in front of one of his company’s characters pointing a double-barreled shotgun at the back of his head. No one can say that the makers of “Grand Theft Auto” don’t have a Tarrantino-esquely violent sense of humor! (Photo: REUTERS/Phil McCarten)
