The pages of starcasm.net have been loaded on computers all over the globe more than 500,000 times! And that doesn’t even count me!
I can’t tell you how extremely humbled and thankful I am for the success of the site. Thanks to all of you – to those that keep coming back, to those that used to keep coming back until you were irreparably offended by Japanna Montana and Birry Ray Samurai,and to those that popped in only once after googling “Danielle Staub sex tape” and being disappointed by the result. Ahhhhhh, the wonderful starcasm family! (C’mon offended one! Birry Ray Samurai is funny!)
From what I understand, the normal procedure is to celebrate unique visitors instead of page views, but there are other things going on (more on that in a minute) that motivated me to pop the cork now rather than later. (The site has had over 440,000 unique vistors – which counts multiple visits by the same person multiple times if there is a large amount of time between visits – so I’m hoping to be poppin’ another cork on some more Yellow Tail soon!) (Hmmmm – popular wine brands can sure sound offensive. I may have lost the Birry Ray Samurai guy again)
The site started back in September and I can still remember getting 20 hits a day wondering, “Who are all these mysterious people that want to look at stick figure cartoons of celebrities?!?” I remember the dance I did when I got 100 visitors in a single day. (You would remember it too if you saw it, but not in a good way) I can remember pricing private jets when I first cracked 1,000, trying to think of how I would divide my millions among family and friends. And so on and so on…
Anyway, the reason I’m motivated to celebrate “early” is because starcasm will be going through some massive changes over the next couple weeks and they go hand in hand with the success of the site. It’s growing! You may have noticed a slight shift in content of late – mo news less funny. That’s a sign of things to come. But don’t worry because it will only be the ratio of news to funny that will be increasing, not the quantity of funny! I will still be churning out Sarah Jessica Parker horse face drawings, Douche Bagazine and The Harsh Ness Monster, but I’ll be joined by other contributors that will be tackling the hot pop culture topics of the day! You won’t have to miss out on the fact that Lilly Allen’s nipple popped out at a concert because I didn’t have the time to draw it! (Actually, with Lilly Allen, there’s not that much to draw)
I don’t want to give away too much, so I’ll just leave it at that. My apologies in advance for the next week or so because I won’t be able to do a lot of posts and there may be short periods when the site is acting funny or loading episodes of Petticoat Junction by mistake. (Your ridicule is encouraged)
Anyway, thanks again to all of you! I’ve had a number of jobs in my life, most all of which required a great deal more time and effort than what they offered in return, but I have never done anything as rewarding as running this site – and though I might jokingly suggest otherwise, know that I am still grateful and amazed at every single click!
