SNL welcomes new featured player Kate McKinnon

Saturday Night Live player Kate McKinnon

With superstar Kristen Wiig’s future in doubt, SNL has brought in talent reinforcement in the form of comedian Kate McKinnon.

Kate’s earned her stripes on the Upright Citizen’s Brigade and the Big Gay Sketch Show. Deadline is reporting that SNL’s honcho Lorne Michaels auditioned a number of performers before running with McKinnon. She could start appearing on Saturday Night Live as early as next week’s show featuring Sofia Vergara.

Here is 27-year-old Kate, real name Kate Berthold, in a clip from the Big Gay Sketch Show in which she takes on none other than Britney Spears:

If Lorne likes what he sees and Kate is brought on full time she would be the first out lesbian to earn that role.

Here’s one more clip of Kate in the UCB Comedy web series, The 40-Year-Old 20-Year-Old.
