Salma Hayek is one of the sexiest Hollywood actresses of the last 25 years and now, according to a candid interview with the Spanish magazine V, she is also outed as a former illegal immigrant!
Hayek, a Mexican native, moved to L.A. back in 1991 to study acting following her edification at the Universidad Iberoamericana in Mexico City. The 44-year-old actress who is now a naturalized United States citizen told V that:
“I was an illegal immigrant in the United States. It was for a small period of time, but I still did it.”
She goes on in the article to discuss what she sees as a trend of rising discrimination against undocumented workers, and promoted programs that build awareness of violence against women. Hayek also didn’t hold back when reflecting on the challenges she faced trying to start her career:
“I had to endure the worst time of all in terms of racial discrimination in Hollywood when I first started out. It was inconceivable to American directors and producers that a Mexican woman could have a lead role.”
