The awards have been handed out, and the ceremony is over, but the photographs–and at least one notable prompter malfunction–will live on in internet infamy. Samuel L. Jackson in a calm pre-show moment with his wife, actress LaTanya Richardson. Richardson was nominated for Best Lead Actress for her role as Lena Younger in A Raisin in the Sun. She lost to Audra McDonald, but A Raisin in the Sun did win the Tony for Best Revival of a Play.
In a bizarrely beautiful meta-moment, Carole King poses with Jessie Mueller, winner of the Tony for Best Lead Actress in a Musical for her starring role in Beautiful: The Carole King Musical. King also introduced Mueller’s musical performance during the ceremony.
Fran Drescher and Zachary Levi react to a minor hiccup with the teleprompter. A few folks’ names got trampled, and maybe some feelings were hurt in the moment–but we all got a good laugh out of it. And, at the end of the day, what’s more important than that?
Zach Braff, affiliated with the Tonys for his work on the lauded musical Bullets Over Broadway, takes time out from front row schmoozing to pose for a tender photo with his father.
At the end of the night, after all the songs hand been sung and all the tears of happiness wrung from overworked ducts, superhuman emcee Hugh Jackman (about whom Dr. Cox is right, he’s just too talented and it’s not fair) and his wife, Deborra-Lee Furness, take a moment to share their beautiful selves.
