ABC has announced that they will cancel “Ugly Betty” after this, it’s 4th season. The Emmy, Golden Globe, and Peabody award-winning show was one of the most popular primetime shows on television, but the ugly truth for “Ugly Betty” is that it’s ratings have suffered a sizeable decline over the last year, even within it’s core audience.

The show, based on a telenovela filmed in Colombia, premiered on ABC on September 28th, 2006. 25-year-old America Ferrera plays the popular lead role of Betty Suarez, an ambitious, quirky, and style-challenged young woman searching for a future at a New York fashion magazine. For Seasons One, Two, and Three the show aired on Thursday nights and was an overall success. In October 2009, it was moved to Fridays, where it had trouble finding an audience. A backlash from Ugly Betty-Heads and a drop in ratings prompted ABC to move the show to Wednesdays.
Executive producer Silvio Horta and ABC president Steve McPherson said in a joint statement. “We’ve mutually come to the difficult decision to make this Ugly Betty’s final season”. The TV Guide network has purchased syndication rights to air reruns of “Ugly Betty” on cable television.

We here at Starcasm always thought that our pitch for a show titled “Sexy Betty” about an underappreciated but smoking hot housewife was a much better idea. Research into the matter sadly indicated that Sexy Betty already existed.

Rosie O’Donnell?!? Some things will never be forgiven. Hopefully hard core “Ugly Betty” fans will find forgiveness for ABC.
