Oscar-winning actor Philip Seymour Hoffman recently got out of a detox program for a substance abuse problem.

Hoffman had past issues with drugs but had been sober for 23 years. Over a year ago he fell off the wagon and he told TMZ that his recent struggles began with prescription pills but escalated to snorting heroin.

Hoffman, widely regarded among his peers and critics as one of the finest actors of his generation, stated that the heroin use only lasted about a week and that it triggered a serious alarm for help. He proceeded to check himself into a rehab facility on the East Coast.

The Master star stated he was in the facility for 10 days and thanked “a great group of friends and family” that assisted him with getting the help he acknowledges he needed.

The 45-year-old father of 3 is said to be clean again and is already back on the set of a current film in Europe.
