Lindsay Lohan was Heath Ledger’s girlfriend when he overdosed; secret diary says she was in love with him
Star Magazine got their hands on a diary Lindsay Lohan kept where she (then 21) writes about her love for Heath Ledger after he accidentally overdosed on prescription medications January 22, 2008. He died from the combined effects of oxycodone, hydrocodone, diazepam, temazepam, alprazolam and doxylamine; some powerful drugs.
Lindsay has long struggled with alcohol and prescription pill addiction, staying in and out of rehab and jail, and struggling with her career as a result. In the diary, she says that the one person who could understand her was Heath, who was now gone. She also professes her love for him:
“Today Heath died. I’m in love with him . . . He was the love of my life. He taught me so much, and he was everything I’ve ever wanted and more. I want to hear him laugh and hold me. I crave his touch and care.”
The fall before his death, Heath had complained of being unable to sleep very much. In a November 2007 New York Times Interview Heath explained: “Last week I probably slept an average of two hours a night. … I couldn’t stop thinking. My body was exhausted, and my mind was still going.” Michelle Williams, his ex-fiance, and mother of his daughter Matilda, later told Interview magazine that Heath had always had trouble sleeping, he had always had too much energy.
Lindsay recognized that she was dealing with the same issues that caused Heath’s death, writing “It’s like a game of Jenga, and when one piece slips, it all falls apart. One pill, one sip and it goes down the slope, crashes, and burns and it’s over. Why? I ask myself over and over. Cry is all I can do.”
Heath was also reportedly linked to other young starlets around the time that he died, most notably Mary-Kate Olsen, who was the first person his masseuse called when she discovered Heath’s body.
