Tune in to “Crazy Heart,” big winner at 2010 The Golden Globes!

Jeff Bridges with his 2010 Best Actor Golden Globe

The underground swell for the movie Crazy Heart should grow by leaps and bounds after a stunning two-fer at last night’s Golden Globe awards. Jeff Bridges won for Best Actor in a Drama, while the song “The Weary Kind” by T Bone Burnett and Ryan Bingham won for Best Original Song.

Crazy Heart is the directorial debut by Scott Cooper and stars the fore mentioned Jeff Bridges, as well as Maggie Gyllenhaal, Robert Duval, and Sarah Jane Morris. The story revolves around the life of Bad Blake (Jeff Bridges) – a broken down, hard living country music singer and his possible salvation at the hands of a young female journalist Jean (Maggie Gyllenhaal) who is looking to find out about the man behind the hat.

Metacritic gives the movie a very high score of 84, classifying their 27 expert reviews as “Universal Acclaim.”

In his review in The New York Times, A.O. Scott states:

“When Robert Duvall (a producer of ‘Crazy Heart’) turns up as one of Bad’s old friends, you might also remember Mac Sledge, the Bad Blake figure he played in Bruce Beresford’s 1983 film, ‘Tender Mercies.’ Mr. Cooper’s movie owes an obvious debt to that one, but there can never be too many songs about drinking, loving and feeling bad, and there is always room for another version of that old song about the guy who messed it all up and kept on going. Especially when that guy can play the tune as truly and as well as Mr. Bridges.”

T-Bone Burnett and his Best Original Song Golden Globe for "The Weary Kind" from Crazy Heart

The song “The Weary Kind” was up against strong competition including “Winter” from the movie Brothers performed by U2 and “I Want to Come Home” from the movie Everybody’s Fine written and performed by Paul McCartney.

Here is a fantastic clip of Ryan Bingham performing the song:

The official trailer from Fox Searchlight that incorporates “The Weary Kind:”

“The Weary Kind” lyrics

Your heart’s on the loose
You rolled them seven’s with nothing lose
And this ain’t no place for the weary kind

You called all your shots
Shooting 8 ball at the corner truck stop
Somehow this don’t feel like home anymore

And this ain’t no place for the weary kind
And this ain’t no place to lose your mind
And this ain’t no place to fall behind
Pick up your crazy heart and give it one more try

Your body aches
Playing your guitar and sweating out the hate
The days and the nights all feel the same

Whiskey has been a thorn in your side
And it doesn’t forget
The highway that calls for your heart inside

And this ain’t no place for the weary kind
And this ain’t no place to lose your mind
And this ain’t no place to fall behind
Pick up your crazy heart and give it one more try

Your lovers won’t kiss
It’s too d**n far from your fingertips
You are the man that ruined her world

Your heart’s on the loose
You rolled them sevens with nothing lose
And this ain’t no place for the weary kind

The movie is still in very limited release, but with all the Golden Globe and potential Oscar buzz around the film you can probably expect it to show in your hometown soon. (Just like Mickey Rourke’s The Wrestler last year) “The Dude” won an Oscar. It was a long time coming, man.
