Chris Kelley, the man who does the voiceovers for SportsCenter, is a 59-year-old Nutmegger with a recording studio in his basement and a penchant for weed. He’s been profiled a few times during his 19-year stint as the voice of ESPN’s flagship program, most notably in a 2012 Front Row podcast (which has since disappeared from the internet) and a recent Deadspin feature.

The Naked and Afraid PSR (or “Primitive Survival Rating,” for the uninitiated) is basically the show’s answer to endless reams of sports statistics. It’s a somewhat objective method of measuring how prepared the show’s participants are to go out into the wild for three weeks before they leave and then, after for the fact, of figuring out how much they developed or regressed. It’s also subjective enough for fans of the show to argue over during the long breaks between seasons.

Every reality TV show in the history of the genre has had to deal with skeptical viewers or disgruntled former participants claiming that the show is completely fake. Naked And Afraid is no exception–in fact, since it’s the most popular show in the survival subgenre, it likely has to deal with this issue more than any other.
