TLC renews Sister Wives for Season 6

In the midst of the Sister Wives divorce controversy TLC has announced they have renewed the show for a sixth season. Keep reading for the full release from the network and watch a preview clip of the two-hour Season 5 finale event in which we are told the Brown family will finally explain the real reasons Kody divorced his first wife Meri and then married his fourth wife Robyn.

On Sunday night's Sister Wives special "Meri: Behind the Scenes" episode Meri Brown make an embarrassing confession that when the Brown family did their very first public interview on the Today show in September of 2010 she had to visit the ladies' room at the last minute and ended up doing the entire interview with her pants uzipped! Being the diligent Sister Wivesologists that we are, we tracked down the clip -- which is not only entertaining because of Meri's wardrobe malfunction, but also because everyone (Kody especially) is so nervous and awkward!

State of Utah appealing historic Sister Wives polygamy ruling

The Brown family featured on TLC’s Sister Wives reality series made history last December when their lawsuit claiming Utah’s laws prohibiting polygamy were unconstitutional went before U.S. District Court Judge Clarke Waddoups and he ruled in the Browns’ favor, which essentially legalized cohabitation in the state of Utah. In addition, Judge Waddoups ruled last month “that state officials (notably prosecutor Jeffrey R. Buhman) violated the constitutional rights of the Brown family in years of criminal investigation and public accusations,” as summarized by Brown family attorney Jonathan Turley.

After the Brown family of TLC’s Sister Wives found fame by exposing their taboo lifestyle on television, it opened up a possibility in the minds of Americans that polygamist families can be very modern and happy. Last year year the Darger family came out too, giving television interviews, and publishing a book about their family called Love Times Three.

‘Sister Wives’ Brown family sues to make polygamy legal in Utah

Although all Utah criminal bigamy charges have been dropped for the Sister Wives‘ Brown Family, it still is a third-degree felony in the state to just say you have more than one wife (as in, not filing the legal documents, but having “spiritual” marriages like the Browns have.) Because of that, the Browns are fighting back, and have filed a lawsuit against Utah in an attempt to get a “federal judge to overturn the state’s bigamy law as unconstitutional.”
