Actor Jim Carrey is being accused of the wrongful death of his late girlfriend, Cathriona White, by her estranged husband in a lawsuit filed in Los Angeles Superior Court Monday.

According to her autopsy report, White overdosed on prescription pills in September 2015 and was found with a note written to her on-again, off-again famous boyfriend. White, who split with Carrey a week before she died, wrote, “I’m sorry you felt I wasn’t there for you. I tried to give you my best part. Please forgive me. I’m just not for this world.”

White was still legally married to Mark Burton, the man who has filed the wrongful death suit against Carrey, at the time of her death.

A text was found on White’s phone in which Carrey mentioned a missing bottle of anti-inflammatories. Another text asked if she “knew where his painkillers went from under his sink.”

The complaint posits:

“If Carrey legitimately believed White had taken the drugs from him and she had subsequently gone missing for days with no contact, then why would Carrey not immediately request law enforcement to check on her well-being after she did not return his text?”

The claim also argues that the Liar Liar star had an “obsession with controlling and manipulating White” and “had the ability to monitor surveillance cameras on a home White often stayed at and was able, by design, to view the residence remotely to keep track of White’s comings and goings.”

Burton also names Carrey’s physician, accusing him of misconduct and conspiring to “wrongfully and illegally provide medications to Carrey under false names.”

Page 6 indicates that Burton also states that Carrey reneged on his promise to pay for White’s funeral in her native country of Ireland. “Not surprisingly, he never informed the media of his broken promise and decision to stiff the family. Instead, he allowed the perpetuation of the ‘grieving, good guy’ image he and his handlers had crafted for the media.”
