Former Ax Men star Gabe Rygaard, who also ran for a local government office after History canceled the show, was killed in a Washington car accident Friday morning. Gabe’s father has confirmed that his son died in the wreck, which involved three separate cars and injured at least seven people.

KOMO News reported that the wreck happened in Rygaard’s hometown of Port Angeles, about two hours northwest of Seattle.

Rygaard, who was driving a Ford Bronco, died while recieving treatment for his injuries at Olympic Medical Center. Seven other people were injured in the wreck, though they “sustained minor injuries, were treated at the scene, and released.”

A later report from Q13 Fox clarified: according to their information, Rygaard “veered left” to avoid hitting a Chevy Tahoe when it came to a stop in front of him. However, he was too late, and hit the Tahoe before spinning out into traffic and hitting another car.

Washington State Police said that Rygaard was not wearing a seatbelt.

Gabe Rygaard was killed just two weeks after another accident took the life of a member of the History reality TV family, when Ice Road Truckers star Darrell Ward died in a Montana plane crash.

All nine seasons of Ax Men are available for streaming on History’s web site.
