Gigi Hadid and Zayn Malik are an official couple now, and it looks like they might be getting down to official business–by which we mean moving into a sweet New York City penthouse together. The 20-year-old ascendant supermodel and her 22-year-old former One Direction heartthrob boyfriend have been spotted out and about at a series of for-sale series of high-class haunts in the Big Apple; their browsing spree comes just days after Gigi finalized the sale of her old apartment.
New York City was good to Gigi in 2015: it was the site of her triumphant debut as a Victoria’s Secret Angel during the brand’s end-of-year fashion show. That show also raised eyebrows for its surprise inclusion of Gigi’s good friend and fellow up-and-coming model Kendall Jenner, but it was Gigi who took the night’s biggest headlines and put the fashion world on notice for 2016.
Well, 2016 is here, and it looks like Gigi Hadid and Zayn Malik have made some sweet new digs their first priority. Of course, the matter of permanent housing is even more pressing for Gigi, who began the year with the $2.3 million sale of her 935-square-foot lower Manhattan apartment. Gigi took a bit of a hit on the sale: the apartment had been listed for $2.45 million, but, according to Business Insider, she bought her old home in 2014 for $1.94 million with funds from her family trust.
Her $300,000-plus profit will go a long way toward securing the property Gigi Hadid and Zayn Malik were spotted checking out together: a $6.49 million apartment smack in the middle of downtown Manhattan. Per Harper’s, the opulent pad features, among other things, a chef’s kitchen; a floating tub; a smart-wired security system (for the forward-thinking anti-thief); and, perhaps best of all when discretion is your jam, an elevator that opens straight into the foyer.
And speaking of power, the Tribune is one of many outlets who’ve noted the couple’s growing penchant for matching power outfits (which some outlets have even taken to calling “poutfits”): for example, during a recent night out on the town, Gigi Hadid and Zayn Malik wore complimentary black and white ensembles, complete with touches of gray (not counting Zayn’s “early silver fox” haircut) and “edgy,” four-figure accessories. The couple is at the forefront of the “typically distressed” movement in cutting-edge fashion–a position that they’re certain to codify if they make Manhattan their home base together.
