Fierce!

A recent ad for the new Barbie Moschino doll is making headlines as it features the first time a boy has been used in a commercial to market the popular toy.

The video spot released October 30th shows the young boy with two girls as they rave about Mattel’s doll line that includes clothes and accessories from fashion designer Moschino.

The boy rocking a voluminous blond faux-hawk (believed to be styled to resemble Moschino creative director Jeremy Scott) enthusiastically proclaims, “Moschino Barbie is so fierce!” He then places a designer purse on Barbie’s arm. Later on in the spot a phone is heard ringing, causing the boy to whip out a Zoolander-sized phone and inform Barbie, “It’s for you.”

This spot comes after retailer Target made headlines this year by removing boys and girls labels from their toy aisles -opting instead to go with the term “kids.” Hasbro’s Easy Bake Oven made the move to become a gender-neutral toy years ago.

If sales are any indication, the kid is right about this Barbie’s fierceness as the limited-edition doll, with a price tag of $150, sold out within an hour of its release last week.
