Do Bachelor contestants get to keep the engagement rings if they split?

Most stars on The Bachelor or The Bachelorette wind up getting engaged at the end of the show. Most of them also split before walking down the aisle. When that happens, what becomes of the pricey Neil Lane rings?

Bachelor in Paradise‘s Jade Roper and Tanner Tolbert, the latest engaged couple from the franchise, shared some interesting details about what their ABC contracts say in regards to the ring. (In their case, it’s a two-carat diamond surrounded by 12 smaller diamonds, set in a platinum band–and worth $88,000.)

“ABC owns it for two years, and after that, if we’re still together, we keep it….Or until we get married,” Jade told TMZ.

Sean Lowe — who ultimately said “I do” with Catherine Giudice — also addressed the question about whether he paid for the ring on his blog in 2014. He indicated the diamonds are (sort of) donated by Neil Lane in exchange for the publicity.

“No. Thank goodness! That sucker is expensive. No one pays for the ring. Neil Lane donates the ring in exchange for advertising,” Sean said. “If the couple doesn’t stay together for at least two years, Neil gets it back. Pretty sweet deal for Neil.”

That’s a really sweet deal, considering the company has gotten the rings back more often than not. It also shows how desperate some of the pairs must have been to split if they couldn’t wait it out two years for $80,000+! 😉
