Lauren Conrad Bans Body Shaming

Lauren Conrad’s website is trading words “skinny,” “thin,” and “slim” for body-positive terms, such as “fit,” “toned,” and “healthy.” Even though the site’s content won’t change significantly — see its Bikini Boot Camp series — Lauren hopes the phrasing will reflect her goal to celebrate all figures.

“When we’ve talked about getting in shape in the past, words like ‘skinny,’ ‘slim,’ and ‘thin’ have often come up,” Lauren said in a blog post yesterday. “Starting this month, we’ll be banning any body shaming terms from the site….We try do to this for the most part anyway, but now we’re making it official!”

Lauren said she made the decision with her team of editors because they “want to make sure that the focus is on being fit as opposed to a number on the scale.” She added, “Every body is created differently — and healthy bodies come in all shapes and sizes.”

Do you think this was a good move? Is it putting a Band Aid on a bigger issue? Or does it make too big a deal out of a few words?
