Nicki Minaj reveals she got an abortion as a teen, says it ‘haunted’ her

Nicki Minaj Abortion

For her new album, Nicki Minaj told The Rolling Stone one of her goals “was to give people a glimpse into my personal life” — and she proved her point by opening up about the abortion she got during high school.

Nicki explained that while attending the prestigious LaGuardia performing arts school, she got involved with an older man from Queens. Then she found out she was pregnant.

“I thought I was going to die,” she said. “I was a teenager. It was the hardest thing I’d ever gone through.”

Nicki got an abortion and, although she remains pro-choice, the decision has “haunted me all my life.” She added, “I wasn’t ready. I didn’t have anything to offer a child.”

She previously alluded to the abortion in a mixtape track called “Autobiography,” which she put out before really finding fame. Here are the pertinent Autobiography lyrics…

Thought I would have a son for you / But now it’s official it’s over… Please baby, forgive me / Mommy was young, mommy was too busy trying to have fun / But now I pat myself on the back for sending you back / Cause God knows I was better than that… I adhere to the nonsense / Listening to people who told me I wasn’t ready for you… If it’s part of God’s plan, maybe we can meet again.

In her new album, Pinkprint, Nicki again addressed the abortion in “All Things Go,” where she rapped: “My child with Aaron would’ve have been 16 any minute.”
