(Before going any further: No, this is not a prank for #PracticalJokeTuesday.)

The marvels of modern technology continue to help us in myriad ways: Girl Scouts are going to begin selling their wonderful baked treats online.

Better still: The most up-to-date Scouts will begin peddling / pushing those tasty wares by mid-December. Which is doubly good news for anyone who doesn’t have the time to bake cookies, but still needs to eat them by the handful.

Tree to the foil

To hear the Scouts themselves tell it, this change was long overdue. Kelly Parisi, Girl Scouts spokeswoman, said “We listened to the girls. We are girl-led and girl-driven. The girls live online. They are digital natives.”

How will they do it? Through mobile apps and Web platforms that each Scout will be able to customize herself.

As part of a safety measure, you’ll only be able to get the goods after Scouts have e-mailed you themselves, inviting you to purchase from them. Which is where the individual Web platforms come in.

According to Parisi, customers will be able to log in to a Scout’s specific web site and place orders with her directly. One of the perks: Speedy delivery. Online sales will be shipped from a central location, and aren’t dependent upon the delivery of the Scout herself (or the Scout’s busy parents).

The name might be the best part: “Digital Cookie.

You now have one fewer reason to leave your couch.
