James Cameron: The Avatar sequels will be “bitchin”

Avatar Wedding

Speaking of crazy time movie sequels, sci-fi maestro James “J-Cam” Cameron has some things to say about the upcoming Avatar sequel trilogy. Some very, very excited things.

“I can tell you one thing about them,” Cameron said, of the next three films in what will become the Avatar franchise. “They’re gonna be bitchin.

Well–that certainly sounds like confidence from one of the most profitable directors of all time. Is that all Mr. Cameron has to say?

Of course not. He continued: “You will sh*t yourself with your mouth wide open.”

Well, then. That certainly sounds like an awe-inspiring moment.

Technologically, Cameron says the three films to be just as cutting-edge as the first one was. He expects to shoot the films in 4K resolution, which promises to become the industry standard for ultra-high definition. (To give you an idea of what 4K means: You know how on YouTube HD refers to either 720 or 1080p? The 4K equivalent of that definition would be 2160p, or twice as sharp as the current sharpest resolution.)

He’s also waiting on software development to catch up to what he needs to tell the ongoing story of the Na’vi, the quest for unobtainum, and the endless complexity of multicultural drama. “You’ll see new worlds, new habitats, new cultures,” Cameron promised. “The primary conflict between the human view kind of dominating nature and the Na’vi view of being integrated into nature is the same, but it manifests itself in very different ways.

Plus, if you’re more interested in the human side of things where story is concerned, recall that Sigourney Weaver has signed on for all three sequels, despite her character dying in the first movie. The rest of the main cast is expected to return, too.

For now, the Camster is holed up in a New Zealand cabin, polishing the final scripts.

This sounds like it’s shaping up to be quite the extravaganza. Avatar 2, 3, and 4 will be released on Christmas Day in 2016, 17, and 18, respectively.
