If you’re a fan of Jimmy Fallon, The Tonight Show, lip syncing, celebrity song-singing, celebrity foolishness, or good times in general, then you will be pleased indeed with the following development.
“Lip Sync Battle” has been commissioned by SpikeTV for 2015. Meaning that it’s now going to be its own show. Meaning that, soon, perhaps the most beloved Tonight Show sketch of them all will be a complete half-hour variety programme all by its sweet lonesome.
Fallon, along with actor John Krasinski and noted British comedian Stephen Merchant, will produce the programme. They will also, from more than time to time, appear on the show, to perform, encourage, cajole, and all-around goof.
Krasinski, you may remember, created the premise of Lip Sync Battle with wife Emily Blunt. The Paul Rudd faceoff was the first on the show; it’s since taken on a life of its own, with YouTube views regularly topping eight figures for each new addition.
Viacom executive Casey Patterson had this to say about the forthcoming programme:
Lip sync battling is one of the coolest things happening in pop culture right now and already has a huge fan base thanks to the amazing talent involved. We’re thrilled to be in business with producers as talented as Jimmy, John and Stephen as Spike broadens its programming in new and exciting ways.
