In a Facebook post today, popular Good Morning America host Robin Roberts acknowledged she is gay for the first time by thanking her “long time girlfriend, Amber” for her support while Robin battled myelodysplastic syndrome.
Robin’s message read in part, “Hard to believe this was 1 year ago today.. when I reached a critical milestone of 100 days post transplant… I am grateful for my entire family, my long time girlfriend, Amber, and friends as we prepare to celebrate a glorious new year together.” Sources close to Robin told TMZ that she acknowledged Amber not to make news about her sexuality, but to thank her partner for her support.
The public thank-you note was a subtle, classy way to confirm persistent questions about Robin’s sexuality. (Robin was previously rumored to be dating a woman named Storm Sahara.) Of course, it’s also raised a whole new set of questions about Robin’s lady.
According to NY Daily News, Robin’s girlfriend’s name is Amber Laign and the women met 10 years ago through mutual friends. (They are pictured together at top during a Hawaiian vacation last summer.) Robin and Amber have lived together for a number of years. As Rumor Fix uncovered, Amber was even by Robin’s side — or, rather, two seats down — when the anchor accepted ESPN’s Arthur Ashe Award For Courage.
Amber worked as a sales representative with Berger and Stevens, a New York fashion showroom, until 2010. She now operates her own massage therapy company and specializes in Deep Tissue, Swedish, Myofascial Release and Trigger Point techniques — which means Robin is one very lucky lady!
