You know the saying that money can’t buy you good taste? Kanye West’s Christmas present to Kim Kardashian and her subsequent use of that gift is proof.
Kim initially shared a photo of the Hermes Birkin bag with a unique George Condo hand-painting on Instagram, captioning it, “#HandPaintedGeorgeCondo #HermesBirkin #OneofOne #ChristmasPresentFromYeezy”
She proceeded to parade the bag — which is worth a few tens of thousands of dollars — through the streets.
Personally speaking, my criticism of the Hermes bag isn’t a knock at George Condo’s work. The renowned artist is great at the style he refers to as “Artificial Realism.” His collaborations with Kanye West have also been practical — particularly when George did the album art for Kanye’s My Beautiful, Dark, Twisted Fantasy.
Even in the case of Kanye’s cover art, I wouldn’t call it “beautiful.” If anything, it’s interesting and provocative. But, since when does “provocative” have a place on the side of a new mother’s purse?
