Prince George Christening - Prince William and Duchess Kate

It’s a rare day when more attention is paid to a baby’s outfit than Duchess Kate’s. But, during today’s christening of Prince George, all eyes were on the 3-month-old cutie.

After arriving at St. James’ Palace, Duchess Kate and Prince William spent a few minutes chatting with guests outside Chapel Royal. The parents then entered the building with Prince George to conduct the 45-minute ceremony in front of a small group.

Among the select guests were Prince George’s newly announced seven godparents: Zara Tindall, Oliver Baker, Emilia Jardine-Paterson, Earl “Hugh” Grosvenor, Jamie Lowther-Pinkerton, Julia Samuel and William van Cutsem. Notably absent from the list of godparents were Kate and William’s siblings.

“It was entirely their choice, their personal preference. There was no set number that they had to choose and have gone with seven people,” a source told People of Prince William and Duchess Kate’s selections. “They wanted to include family and friends and reflect their life on both sides.”

Although it’s slightly nontraditional to exclude aunts and/or uncles from the godparents list, William and Kate did go the traditional route with Prince George’s outfit: It was a replica of the same baptismal gown that’s been used by the royal family since 1841.

This was the second public appearance for Prince George with the first coming just the day after his July 22 birth.
