Breaking Bad fans are going through both a glorious and traumatic time right now as the series starts to wrap up, and Albuquerque, New Mexico, the town the series is set in, is looking for ways to cash in on the show’s popularity with everything from Breaking Bad tours to fake meth candy. It kinds of makes me want to get on the next plane to Albuquerque.
The candy lady who makes the fake rock candy meth has been criticized locally for “glamourizing” the destructive and addictive drug, but 60-year-old Debbie Ball thinks the backlash is ridiculous. “Obviously it doesn’t [glorify meth,]” she told NPR. “To me it teaches you which way not to go. You go down that dark road and you can’t come back.”
If you do happen to drop by The Candy Lady in Albuquerque, the novelty of the candy is enhanced by the fact that it’s the same stuff used as a prop in the actual show. That’s right! You can chow down on the real blue “meth” that Walter White and Pinkman make.
While you’re in town, you can also pick up some “Bathing Bad” bath salts at Great Face and Body. The spa product is a combination of 17 essential oils including spearmint, lemongrass, patchouli, and lavender, and is mixed in a giant cement mixer. Co-owner Keith West says they were trying to recreate what meth would smell like in a spa product. That’s a little frightening, but still intriguing.
