Beyonce’s dad Mathew Knowles owes $1.2 million in taxes

Mathew Knowles may no longer be managing his daughter Beyonce’s career, but for the years that he did he raked in plenty of cash. Unfortunately, he failed to pay the necessary taxes to remain in the good graces of the IRS. According to a new report, Mathew now owes over $1.2 million on his earnings during 2010 and 2011.

TMZ reports that a lien has just been filed against Knowles claiming he owes $485,575.95 from 2010 and $728,004.89 from 2011. If Mathew fails to fork over the amount owed, his property, including any homes he may own, could be foreclosed on.

In 2011, Mathew and his daughter Beyonce ended their professional relationship (their personal relationship became strained as well). At the time, rumors swirled about the reason behind their split. While Beyonce has never said specifically who cut ties with whom, she recently discussed their issues with Oprah.

“It took a while for me and my dad to have an understanding. When I turned 18 and started handling my business more, he went into shock. And we had our issues,” Beyonce explained. “I’d say ‘No’ to something, and he’d book it anyway. Then I’d have to do it because I’d look bad [if I didn’t]. We would fight sometimes, and it took about two years, to when I was 20, for him to realize, ‘Oh, she is an adult now, and if she doesn’t wanna do something, I can’t make her do it.'”

Just months ago, Mathew had opened up about their falling out telling The Sun, “Normally I hate to talk about anything personal, but it would be a lie if I did not say it has been difficult. It was hard for me to let her go — it was hard for both of us to let each other go. And let’s be clear on that. She didn’t let me go, we both let each other go. That’s a big difference.”
