You may have thought this happened already, but you would be wrong: more than sixteen months after announcing their separation and three months after Ashton Kutcher filed his own divorce papers, Demi Moore is officially filing divorce papers, according to the New York Post’s Page Six. The reason for why it has taken so long for Demi to file appears to be that the actress was “hoping to quietly negotiate a settlement and then file the papers once an agreement was reached” but Ashton has made the process extremely complicated for her. An insider told Page Six: “Ashton has been very difficult during the talks… You could even say he has been hostile.”
If both sides do not reach a settlement by this spring, the divorce will go into litigation and trial. And both sides have strong representation: Ashton’s attorney is LA celebrity lawyer Laura Wasser and Demi’s attorney is “powerhouse” New York attorney, William Beslow. To give you an idea of the fortune at stake, Ashton reportedly made $24 million last year for starring in Two and a Half Men. The same source for Page Six said, “Ashton made a lot of money after marrying Demi — a lot more than she made — but despite him becoming just as famous through her, he believes he doesn’t owe her that much.”
Most recently, Demi Moore has been in headlines when her friend, Madonna, supposedly snubbed her at her Oscars party and invited Ashton instead; however, a source asserts that it was just a rumor and that Demi was on vacation out of the country. Ashton has also been in the news recently; the woman with whom Ashton cheated on Demi, Sara Leal, told The Sun, “Once a cheater, always a cheater. If I were Mila I’d be careful, he doesn’t have the best track record. But she’s obviously willing to take that risk. If I was dating a guy that had cheated on his wife I would be a little suspicious. It would probably make me extra crazy and extra insecure. I’d definitely keep an eye out. That would be a red flag in my eyes, if I was dating somebody that cheated on their wife.”
So if anyone has been holding out hope that these two might be able to work it out because Demi had not yet filed, despite the detailed cheating exploits, trips to the emergency room, and burgeoning new relationships, I would say it’s probably really over for Demi and Ashton.
