Emily VanCamp talks about Hollywood’s “addiction to youth”

At just 26, Revenge star Emily VanCamp is already threatened by the idea of wrinkles.

“I think actors get addicted to youth, but it seems so exhausting to me,” VanCamp told Fashion Magazine. “The expectation to maintain this perfectly youthful face is incredibly intimidating as a woman in this business.”

Even though she vowed to resist the urge to Botox her first fine line, VanCamp isn’t passive when it comes to health. A trained ballerina, VanCamp has happily traded pirouettes for less competitive forms of exercise, such as yoga and Pilates.

“I learned acting is less cutthroat than ballet,” VanCamp explained.

Maybe VanCamp doesn’t think acting is too cutthroat because she has enjoyed success for more than a decade. After getting her first big break in Everwood, a sleeper hit that ran from 2002 to 2006, VanCamp was a regular cast member on Brothers & Sisters. Now she stars on the ABC drama Revenge, which follows her sociopathic character’s journey to get even with the people who ruined her family.

Just like her character in Revenge, VanCamp didn’t hold back when it came to addressing some of big issues. As a born-and-raised Canadian, VanCamp takes pride in her country’s progressive social laws.

“The fact that we’re still talking about women’s reproductive rights, and that gay men and women cannot get married here, is baffling. I have such a huge issue with it,” she said. “I honestly feel like we are moving back to the dark ages. Government should be talking about gun laws and fixing the economy or things that are failing within the system.”
