Christian Slater had a big announcement when he appeared on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon last night. No, it’s not a sequel to Heathers — he’s engaged! Christian and his longtime girlfriend Brittany Lopez are preparing for the next step in their relationship, and he revealed to Jimmy how they met.
“I went down to Miami a couple years ago, stayed at this little place (resort) called Little Palm Island… and this girl came walking along with another lady, a slightly older lady,” Christian revealed to Jimmy. “I was sitting in my usual spot, eating my oatmeal that morning… and this spot was famous for people proposing to each other… and next thing I know she gets down on one knee and proposes to this older lady…”
“I thought I had just witnessed a nice lesbian engagement, so I was coming over to say congratulations,” he explained, “but it turns out it was her aunt and she was just trying to help her aunt capture the beauty and the romance of the moment. She was making a joke, and I witnessed it, and it intrigued me, and the next thing I know we were hanging out in the Everglades.” And the rest is history!
In 2000, Christian married to Ryan Haddon, the daughter of model Dayle Haddon, with whom he has two children (Jaden, 13, and Eliana, 11). The two made headlines in 2003 when Ryan allegedly smashed a bottle over the head of Christian which led to him needing 20 stitches. Ryan was arrested and charged with domestic battery. A year later, they announced they would be separating and in 2007, they officially divorced.
