Leighton Meester debuted a new look on the red carpet at last night’s Flaunt Magazine dinner in her honor at West Hollywood’s Ink Restaurant — she’s gone short. The Gossip Girl star has had long hair since we first met her but says that she was in desperate need of a change, so when the show wrapped, she went for it – -with the help of one of her show stylists.
“I chopped off my hair after Gossip Girl wrapped,” she told Just Jared. “My long, wavy hair got a lot of mileage, so it was time for a change. The girl who did my hair on the show chopped it off and I love it. I hop out of the shower and it takes five minutes to dry.”
Leighton is the second Gossip Girl star to make a change post-filing. Her co-star and sometimes love interest, Penn Badgley, cut off his long mop do and opted for a buzz cut which he debuted at the wrap party last weekend.
“It’ll be bittersweet. I’m sure we all want to go on to. . . not bigger things, but different things,” Penn told Us Weekly. “It will be a complicated feeling of ambivalence.”
Leighton also recently spoke out about the hit show coming to an end, telling Vulture Magazine, “It’s been an amazing tool to learn from, and I owe pretty much everything to Gossip Girl. But I could say, somewhat, [that] it’s my personal growth that has made me want to move beyond it.”
Gossip Girl‘s final season is currently airing every Monday night at 9/8c on The CW.
