Cover Art The Lost Notebooks of Hank Williams

In what may very well be my most anticipated musical release of the year, The Lost Notebooks of Hank Williams is now available for pre-sale and set for an October 4th release date.

This project has been long rumored and its taken several years for it to come to fruition. In 2004 the estate of Hank Williams approved music legend Bob Dylan to work on found unfinished lyrics of Hank Williams. Its believed that Dylan initially intended on doing the project on his own but decided to ask fellow musicians to work on the project as well.

This isn’t Dylan’s first journey into putting together various artists to pay homage to a country music legend as his The Songs of Jimmie Rodgers was an incredible release featuring Van Morrison, Willie Nelson, John Mellencamp, Iris Dement, Steve Earle and Dwight Yoakam among others. Mellencamp’s take on “Gambling Bar Room Blues” might be the finest tribute cover I’ve ever heard for one of these types of releases.

Here is the official track listing for The Lost Notebooks of Hank Williams and just reading this makes me giddy with anticipation:

1. You’ve Been Lonesome, Too – Alan Jackson
2.
The Love That Faded  – Bob Dylan

How Many Times Have You Broken My Heart?  – Norah Jones
