Country singer (and actor!) Willie Nelson is a seemingly ageless spiritual guru with a beard and long hair who is constantly traveling, likes to smoke, and almost always has a piece of wood with him in the form of his famous guitar, Trigger. So of course he would be a perfect fit to play JRR Tolkein’s wizened wizard, Gandalf! Now, thanks to the fine folks over at Conan O’Brien’s Team CoCo, here is Willie Wizard Nelson auditioning for the role in Peter Jackson’s upcoming The Hobbit 2!

While the big story from last night’s election was the victory of Barack Obama, a couple of western states snuck in a little “you know what” laws while the rest of us weren’t looking. The people of Colorado and Washington have voted to legalize the recreational use of marijuana. It’s a major breakthrough in the long fight for legalization of cannabis but don’t go whipping out your bongs and calling up Willie and Snoop just yet. As always, there’s a catch.

The music industry’s spiritual elite gathered in Austin, Texas this weekend for a tribute concert in honor of The Man In Black, Johnny Cash. Dubbed “We Walk The Line: a Celebration of the Music of Johnny Cash,” the star-studded event raised spirits of those in attendance while simultaneously raising funds to fight Duchenne muscular dystrophy through Charley’s Fund. Last night’s Grammys was a seriously star laden affair with veterans Paul McCartney, Bruce Springsteen, and a reunited Beach Boys joining the likes of newcomers Adele and Taylor Swift. With all of these mega-names British band Coldplay got somewhat lost in the shadows and to make matters worse were topped by a commercial that followed their performance. Every so often one of these “images of Jesus on a random object” come across the news wire but I found this one to be particularly interesting and uniquely American. In a couple of random “Miley Cyrus walking to her car after dance class” paparazzi photos the young star could be seen sporting a hard-core Willie Nelson Texas t-shirt. The young starlet has been experiencing some very public growing pains as she transforms into an adult before our eyes and donning some Willie wear may be one small way to help Miley cope. So what if I told you that musical legend Willie Nelson released arguably his best album in 1996 to little fanfare or critical acclaim? And what if I told you that if this hidden gem were to be classified as a “country” album that it would be the very best release under that genre in the last 20 years? You would probably think, like that character in Willie’s classic song, that I’m crazy right? Well I may be crazy but this is exactly my opinion of Nelson’s masterpiece Spirit.

I have certain very personal feelings about the fact that Willie Nelson was arrested in Texas for possession of 6oz of marijuana. Well at The Players Ball 2010 Snoop Dogg was able to communicate exactly how I felt about the situation and his feelings in regards to our elder and the respect he’s earned.

As the entire internet has reported Willie Nelson has been arrested in Hudspeth County, Texas for marijuana possession. After a little research I found an interesting Fox News video that does not bode well for the Red Headed Stranger. The County Sheriff, Arvin West, wears an eleven-gallon-hat and openly encourages his citizens to arm themselves in the war on drugs! See Arvin’s message that lets us all know that west Texas is still the wild west and is certainly no country for old men (like Willie).

Country music legend (and my personal guru) Willie Nelson was arrested again last week for pot possession after Willie’s tour bus was stopped at a Sierra Blanca, Texas checkpoint and a diligent officer smelled Willie Nelson marijuana.
