After the Brown family of TLC’s Sister Wives found fame by exposing their taboo lifestyle on television, it opened up a possibility in the minds of Americans that polygamist families can be very modern and happy. Last year year the Darger family came out too, giving television interviews, and publishing a book about their family called Love Times Three.

The Dargers are definitely unique.

Although all Utah criminal bigamy charges have been dropped for the Sister Wives‘ Brown Family, it still is a third-degree felony in the state to just say you have more than one wife (as in, not filing the legal documents, but having “spiritual” marriages like the Browns have.) Because of that, the Browns are fighting back, and have filed a lawsuit against Utah in an attempt to get a “federal judge to overturn the state’s bigamy law as unconstitutional.”

The Brown Family have a reason to relax and celebrate this weekend! The Brown Family of TLC’s Sister Wives fame have 22 mouths to feed (17 kids, 4 wives, and one dad/husband,) and have had to move from their home in Utah to four separate residences in Las Vegas, Nevada because of a threat that their family may be broken up. First wife Meri lost her job after the show came on the air, Robyn left her job to join the family, and the main breadwinners Jenelle and Kody had to leave their jobs behind when they moved. Their move and living expenses afterwards came mostly from what supposed to be their retirement savings, and many of the kids are nearing college age. How does this huge family support themselves?

Last Sunday we saw all of Kody Brown’s sister wives (including pregnant Robyn) hit the gym for some personal training. The episode began with all the wives revealing their weight, and except for Robyn (who weighed in at 158 lb.) all of the other wives were over 200 pounds.

Reality’s polygamous Brown family has endured some astronomical changes in the past year, including exposing their controversial lifestyle on a popular television show, facing legal scares, losing their jobs and relocating to a new city, but perhaps one of the hardest things to deal with was the addition of a new, young, hot wife after nearly two decades of living together as an unchanged family unit.

Christine in particular has been finding it hard to accept her husband’s obvious affinity for Robyn, who addicted three of her own children from another marriage, and now has a baby on the way.

Kody Brown and three of his better-fifths sat down with Anderson Cooper on his new talk show to discuss their Sister Wives lifestyle. During the episode Cooper also featured children who had suffered greatly at the hands of an FLDS upbringing. The combination made for some interesting viewpoints and comments. One of these was that Kody and first-wife Meri’s only child Mariah wants to one day be in a plural marriage like her parents.
