16 and Pregnant’s Ashley Salazar releasing book “Bittersweet Blessing” this fall

Ashley Salazar to release Bittersweet Blessing in the fall of 2011

We took a shining to 16 and Pregnant‘s Ashley Salazar months before her episode closed out season 2 of the popular MTV reality series because of her very well written (and gut-wrenchingly honest) blog detailing the emotional trauma of giving her daughter Callie up for adoption.

Well it seems Ashley has continued writing and has just announced that she will be releasing a book this fall titled Bittersweet Blessing! CLICK HERE to order.

After much hype and teasing about having a “big announcement” over the last week or so, which of course lead many to guess she was pregnant again, Ashley officially let the cat out of the bag on her blog earlier today:

I will be releasing a book entitled Bittersweet Blessing about the past two 1/2 years of my life, back and forward! Look for it on shelves THIS FALL!

Thank you to ALL of my supporters. YOU ARE THE ONES that keep me going.

This is all I can say for now!

UPDATE - Amazon has added what looks to be the front cover on their site and changed the name of their listing to the correct tile. The cover looks to keep with the 16 and Pregnant notebook illustration theme with a pen-and-ink drawing of Ashley’s pregnant belly exploding out of a sheet of accountant ledger paper:

The listing for Bittersweet Blessing by Ashley Salazar has a release date of September 13, 2011 and is published by MTV Press. Here are the blurbs from the publisher as featured on amazon.com:

When high-school junior Ashley Salazar learned she was pregnant, she immediately started a blog to document the difficult, life-altering experience. Little did she know how life-altering it would actually be. Later, she applied online to be considered for the cast of MTV’s hit show 16 & Pregnant. The show responded quickly and her story will be told as the season 2 finale in a special 90-minute episode aired in December 2010. Her memoir takes the viewer further back and further forward, and chronicles the tortured indecision she faces as she decides whether its best for her baby to give her up for adoption or take the dramatic step toward motherhood.

About the Author: Ashley D. Salazar is from McKinney, Texas. Now 19 years old, she is the subject of an upcoming special episode of MTV’s enormously successful show 16 & Pregnant. Currently, she is living in New York City attending the New School.

I am really excited for Ashley! I was hoping she would be able to mesh her writing with her exposure on the show and turn it into something. I was thinking maybe being a guest blogger for MTV (or starcasm!) but a book is even better! Here’s an excerpt from my initial write up on Ashley and her blog in which I praised her writing – perhaps it would make good copy for the back of the book :)

For being just 16 and 17 at the time, the blog is incredibly well written. Ashley’s able to convey some very complicated feelings and emotions, and she does so without constant grammatical blunders or the reading speed bumps of IMglish. … She’s not afraid to be angry, she’s not afraid to be wrong and she’s not afraid to be uncertain. In other words, she’s not afraid to be honest – in her writing and with herself.

Oh, and in case you wanted to know what Ashley has been up to, she went to New York City to go to college, but eventually decided she would rather return to Texas and attend school there. She’s currently enrolled and taking classes, and you’ll be happy to hear she has a new man! Meet Jordan, who seems to be a perfect match for Ashley in that he is a bit witty, has a good sense of humor and isn’t afraid to be a goober some times. Case in point:

Also, you didn’t notice in the photo above, Ashley has lost a little weight. (She must be getting into shape for that inevitable book tour this fall!)

Congratulations to Ashley! We’ll be sure to stay tuned and keep our readers updated whenever there’s more info and a listing on amazon.

What’s that? Oh yeah! Little Callie! She’s doing great and just like every child, growing up too fast. Here’s a recent photo from Ashley’s official Facebook fan page:

She’s so cute. Looks just like her mom. AHHHHH :)

This girl doesn’t need a book or a tour, what she needs is some serious psychiatric counseling. I followed her blog and several times she sounded suicidal and whether it was a real cry for help or a cry for attention–she needs help! The back and forth with the baby, making comments about how she wanted to just take her back and run. Yeah the last thing she needs is more fame or a new boyfriend to get knocked up by–she needs deep, intensive, possible in treatment counseling not more praises for being an unemotional and mentally unstable teenager.

Mad much? ashley i love what your doing and what you did and i for one am a big fan and honeslty dont know why people post hate mail to people they dont know it’s stupid and a waste of time and i honestly think your just mad because ashley has smething going for her nicole and you don’t sooo (:

    • mymandolinmoon

I didn’t find her blog to be well written at all. What a pity that average writing that displays average intelligence merits praise and a book deal these days.

    • J

If you don’t like it I gues *gasp* you don’t have to read it!

      • mymandolinmoon

Haha that’s exactly what happened. I checked it out, read a few entries, didn’t care for it, and never visited again. Really not a big deal!

    • J

@ Nicole If you followed her blog, then you would know that she is and has been in counseling for a while. And a book deal and new man in her life would be a self-esteem booster for anyone.

and @ mymandolinmoon, She didn’t get a book deal because of her fabulous writing, she got a book deal because of her interesting story. And since you’re taking the time to check out her blog and this article on Starcasm, I’d have to say that something about that story must have sparked your interest as well.

I don’t know about this girl I think a lot of this stuff was attention grabbing. She had that fake pout look through the whole episode. I mean I have never been put in that situation I thought it was kind of mean and selfish for her to give up the child then take it back. Then make her mom drive her 4 hours to give her back.

    • selene

I really don’t know why people are talking smack about her I didn’t like her on her show because I thought she was being greedy by getting her baby back but she’s writing a book she is trying to do something with her life not like some of the other girls from 16 and pregnant who’s getting are locked up and smoking weed taking naked pics leave this girl alone and let here try do something good with her life

    • tab

i totally agree with nicole. this girl is unstable and won’t allow herself to move on with her life. her story is not interesting at all, isn’t any more emotional than any other girl that has chosen adoption for her baby. if she hadn’t been on the show, there’s no way she would have gotten a book deal. the few times i’ve read her blog, i’ve left feeling so depressed. she needs serious help.

      • hihi90

        I agree with this.

Also who on earth is willing to read the ramblings and vents of a teenager girl. The biography of a mopey 17 year old? I’ll pass!

        • J

If you don’t care enough to read it, then don’t read it. No one is asking you to run out and purchase the book. And if you’re so un-interested in the “biography of a mopey 17 year old” then one would have to question why exactly you’re so interested in this blog post?

    • Alison Dubeirs

Is it me, or does her boyfriend highly resemble Gomer Pyle?

      • AJ

        It’s just you.

    • deb

Far out people are just bitchy, no one is perfect and finding fault in others make you feel better than you just sad sh!ts.

Ashley would be mixed up because of the pain, a lot of women are hurt to give their baby up. Its not something she can just get over.

I respect her as am amazing woman and as a mother can see how it would hurt to give my babies up. Ashley stays in her babys life which is far more better in one way to see her grown up but hurtful as she wants to be mum.

thankyou for sharing your story Ashley xo

If you dont like what is written, go read something else, instead of bring others down because your life sucks.
