PHOTOS Top 5 Tron: Legacy character mashups

In honor of the release of the much-anticipated Tron: Legacy featuring Jeff Bridges reprising his cultastic role as Kevin Flynn from the original 1982 Disney classic and co-starring beautiful people Garrett Hedlund as Kevin Flynn’s son Sam Flynn and Olivia Wilde as Quorra, I thought I might put together a list of the top five characters Disney could have chosen to be in the sequel.

Ronald McDonald meets Tron Legacy

Casting Ronald McDonald would have been a marketing coupe for the film and for the restaurant chain as happy meals the world over (except in California) would have been stuffed with little light cycles and glow-in-the-dark frisbees! In the end Tronald didn’t get the role because his slap haptitude didn’t mesh with the serious direction director Joseph Kosinski wanted to go with the film.

LeBron James meets Tron Legacy

Things were all set for LeBron James to make his acting debut but just before production began he decided he would skip Tron Legacy and go right to the big money of Pixar with their 2012 Roald Dahl sequel LeBron James and the Giant Peach. After building up a loyal audience with 7 Giant Peach Films, LeBron will then announce he is leaving Disney to join Mel Gibson, Julia Roberts and James Cameron in a remake of Titanic in a desperate ploy to finally take home an Oscar

Ronnie Spector at Tron Legacy

The only competitor for Olivia Wilde to make our list is 67-year-old rock legend Veronica Yvette “Ronnie” Spector. Disney was hoping to do for Ronnie what Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome did for Tina Turner, but balked when Ronnie insisted they also cast two other female actors in “back up” roles and call the trio The Tronettes.

Scientology meets Tron Legacy with L. Tron Hubbard

Disney flirted for some time with the notion of mashing up the legacies of two of the best baddest sci-fi movies of all time by introducing the Scientological elements of L. Ron Hubbard’s epic flop Battlefield Earth to the world of Tron but would eventually scrap the idea in favor of making a movie people would come see and that wasn’t really, really stupid. (There are also rumors that bringing in L. Tron Hubbard would have also necessitated the new character Tron Cruise be written in for an unnamed actor.)

Will Ferrel's Ron Burgundy from Anchorman meets Tron Legacy

Believe it or not there was a time when producers were flirting with the notion of a comedy for the Tron sequel tentatively named Legacy of Tron Burgundy starring Will Ferrel as his famous lead character from Anchorman. The direction would have saved millions on production costs but Disney execs really wanted a live-action/CGI trophy picture starring The Dude.
