Actor and musician Darren Criss is all the buzz among Gleeks this week after his openly gay character Blaine delivered a rousing performance of Katy Perry’s “Teenage Dream” on the episode “Never Been Kissed.” (You can see the original performance from the show HERE)
Darren Criss gave a concert last night at The Mint in Los Angeles and delivered an encore performance of the Katy Perry hit! All the photos in this post are from last night and here’s an audience recording of his performance from YouTube:
Both performances are great, but what everyone really wants to talk about is whether or not Blaine, a performer from a rival school on the show, will become a love interest for Glee‘s gay lead Kurt Hummel, played by Chris Colfer.
Criss tip-toed around the subject in an interview with Vanity Fair’s Brett Burk, who asked him, “Will he and Kurt get involved? Intimately?”
I don’t know. At this point, that isn’t something that has been addressed. Right now, people want to believe what they want to believe. And I want to believe that Kurt will have some kind of romantic interest. However, I can’t confirm that at all … Kurt is the only gay-teen male. So to have another young gay teen that he can talk to and relate to, that’s the most important thing. He has a support system. And whether it evolves into something more, well, we’ll see what happens.
The University of Michigan grad goes on to talk about growing up in San Francisco in a very open theater community and how he had to eventually come out of the closet as a straight male, much to the dismay of many of his friends.
And in case you weren’t aware, Darren Criss first made a name for himself with a silly production he did while a student at Michigan titled A Very Potter Musical, which he eventually uploaded to YouTube for family and friends to see. The video went viral and has garnered millions of page views to date and spawned a sequel, A Very Potter Sequel. Here’s Part One of A Very Potter Musical:
