Kanye West has been all over the news wire lately, building momentum for his upcoming release My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy

At a screening of his experimental short film Runaway West told a Los Angeles audience that he had considered suicide but backed away wanting to make a contribution to the music and art world.  West flashed his usual severe lack of humbleness in telling those in attendance that he was a pop icon as well as a “soldier for culture.”  He added:

“There were times that I contemplated suicide.  However, I will not give up on life again.  There’s so many people that will never get the chance to have their voice heard.  I do it for them.”

Runaway featured parts of nine new songs, bold and colorful visuals along with nontraditional camera angles.  This 35-minute abstract piece will premiere on MTV, VH1 and BET this weekend and will also accompany his new release set for November 22nd.  Special appearances in the film include rapper Nicki Minaj and West’s reported girlfriend and Victoria’s Secret model Selita Ebanks.

Vocal guest appearances verified from the songs include none other than Elton John, Alicia Keys, Rihanna and John Legend.  All signs point to West’s new album becoming a major hit.  There’s even been a controversy over the album’s artwork already.  If you’re interested in pre-ordering a copy you can do that here.
