Anderson, Indiana police are investigating Teen Mom domestic violence incident

MTV has shown us violence against Gary Shirley by the mother of his child, Amber Portwood, before, but Tuesday’s episode indicates that it has escalated.

In Season One of Teen Mom Amber is seen choking and slapping Gary after he disrespects her father. Now we see that MTV’s cameras caught Amber punching and hitting Gary many times while he calmly asked “Are you done?”

She was throwing Gary out of her apartment after he announced he was taking their daughter Leah away because of Amber’s behavioral problems. As Gary started down the stairs carrying a heavy television after Amber’s initial assault, she finished with what looked like a kick to his back.

This a severe domestic violence situation, and there would have probably been an arrest made at the time of the incident if this had been violence by a man against a woman. Because the gender was reversed, nothing came of it.

Police in Anderson, Indiana, where Gary and Amber live, have launched an investigation about the incident after people sent them emails about the show. Both Amber and Gary were in Tennessee filming for MTV when they tried to contact them, so it’s still unclear what action the police plan to take, or if MTV will be in any way be held responsible for witnessing but not reporting a crime.

Yesterday MTV temporarily pulled the episode from it’s website.

Well I for one am glad this is being investigated. Amber seems like she has alot of anger problems that need to be delt with. And shame on MTV for standing by and doing nothing. She needs to learn to clean… and take care of her child… her apt is always filthy…. all those toys she had in her childs crib are a health hazard.. what am i saying amber is a healthy hazard! hope she gets the help she needs.

  I am so sad for Leah (the baby) because some day Amber might not be able to control her anger and seriously hurt that beautiful, innocent baby!! I did see the kick at the end of the “attack” and correct me if I’m wrong, she did have about a 1/2 of min to think about kicking him as he tries to carry that heavy T.V. down the stairs… now thats a disturbed person!! The verbal abuse that Gary has to endure is so cruel like “Fat a–!! Again, that poor baby, she will get the rath of her mother, Amber!! Her apartment is awful, no crib sheet on the bed??!! If it came down to money… there are plenty of thrift stores around and she could get some for $.25 a piece!! People tend to only focus on DV on women… but forget there truly is DV amongst men!! Just a sad situation all around!! The better parent is obvious… GARY!! Atleast he is gentle with his daughter, not the best provider and I’m sure he’ll go on public assistance!! Meds, psychiatrists, anger management etc is not going to help someone damaged….. you all know and I know it!!

      i think that amber vary depress no child shouldnt b taken most likly there b cps and what end up happen is she go parent classes then anger mangment she got calm husben yes she angry depressed cuz she has kid she still kid herself i had a kid has teen iit was hard times i lucky tho had strong fam even tho i was single mom but she does really need help if she un happy leave him do put the kid middle has for house her fam prob did lot for her befor then her old man now he taks stand try be man of house she dont know what do

I am extremely disappointed in MTV for not intervening or at least reporting Amber to the authorities. I understand how they want to film the “real stuff” and have everyone pretend that they aren’t there but the reality is that they WERE there. They saw that crazy girl beat on that man and then kicked him while he was walking down a flight of stairs! And they did nothing! Now they are running around with their tails between their legs because anyone with a normal thinking pattern is screaming dosmestic abuse! I do not think that I will have MTV playing in my house anymore due to this last stunt by them. Enough is enough MTV.

stupid mtv. hope they get in big trouble too for not reporting it. they should have filmed themselves calling cops and amber being arrested on tv. instead they dont respond to inquiries and pull show from their website. they better tell where amber is now.

Amber is so worried about looking like a bad mom because she didn’t have a crib sheet on her baby’s bed. Why doesn’t she give up her tanning sessions or her fighting lessons and buy that baby the basics that she needs.She has alot of nerve calling Gary trash at least he knows how to be a decent parent.

Watching the way Amber acts again and again towards Gary is beyond ridiculous. I do agree that some woman think they have some kind of right to abuse men??! What kind of bullcrap is this?

Does Amber not realize the long term affects this is going to have on her daughter? Children are not blind to this stuff. Not even at the young age of one! Studies have shown that children who are subjected to violent behavior will not only have a higher chance of being violent themselves, but Leah will also most likely grow up having depression & anxiety problems as well as low self-esteem; unless something is done…and FAST!

I can’t grasp how with the solid evidence of the situations that have occurred over the past year, Amber would not face charges. If she gets nothing more than a slap on a wrist, there’s no doubt that this country is for sure, a complete joke.

It’s time we start MAKING people suffer the consequences for the negative actions they output, male or FEMALE and stop putting them in “time-out”.

Amber is such a B**** i really hate her she doesn’t deserve leah she tells leah to stop crying when leah is just a little girl.Leah should be with gary, and in the episodes when gary would leave, leah would start crying leah rathers like to be with gary than with amber. Gary is such a lovable guy giving amber everything and thats how she pays him he deserves someone better.Now her new bf i cant believe she’s with that guy especially because he came out of jail thats just messed up. i like amber a lot, i hope she doesnt get charged/convicted. i understand why she flipped out. shes a tough chick, and leah needs her mom. so wat, she slapped gary a bit (like hardly anything), get over it. pple are so dramatic

ummm yeah gonna have to disagree, amber is not depressed because she has a kid she was that way before leah, i can almost guarantee…She shouldnt have laid down and acted grown if she wasnt ready….. And also if gary was to put his hands on amber i guarantee u he would have been arrested even though he should have punched her in the face for all the shit she has done…. i would not blame him some women who think they can treat pple that way need busted in the face, i bet they dont put their hands on them again…. all he wants is for u to love him and treat him the way he should b treated….
