You Oughta Know: Who is Alanis Morissette’s new husband Souleye?

People (via PopEater) is reporting that singer-songwriter Alanis Morrisette married rapper Souleye (real name: Mario Treadway) in a quiet ceremony at their Los Angeles home on May 22nd. Everyone knows Alanis, 36, from her album Jagged Little Pill which has sold over 33 million units, but who in the world is Souleye? I did some research on Mr. Morissette and here’s what I came up with:

According to his Myspace page, Souleye was born and raised in Massachusetts and began writing at the young age of 10.  His rap career officially started when he won a spot on “Jam Cruise” in 2005, a contest put on by Relix magazine that included members of P-Funk, Les Claypool, Digable Planets, Michael Franti, Bella Fleck and Bassnectar.  Since “Jam Cruise” he has performed at Coachella, Burning Man and South by Southwest among many other festivals and released the album Intergalactic Vibes in 2006.

His Myspace goes on to say:

With over 500 shows under his belt, he continues to hone his unparalleled ability to freestyle and slay his sweaty and hungry audiences, who look to him for guidance, inspiration and profound entertainment. SOULEYE was clearly born to write rhymes and perform.

Here is Souleye throwing down with a little freestyle at Ski Jam 2007:

Via his official website, a June 1st post touts his latest release called Balance in Babylon from 1320 Records. (You can listen to it HERE.) Part of the proceeds from the album will go to Conscious Alliance to help bring relief to American Indian Reservations.

Ol’ Souleye has a ways to go until Balance in Babylon moves as many copies as his old lady’s US debut, but being announced as Mr. Morissette can only help!
