While doing research on my Tami Farrell post I inevitably ran across a number of beauty pageant web sites and forums. I’ve seen the reality shows on TV so I understand that the pageant lifestyle is an entirely different reality than the one most of us live in, but I was still completely unprepared for what I saw on some of these sites.
****I won’t go on at length about whether or not this is a healthy thing for young girls, and I will try to rein in the snark because these are real live little girls. (At least I think they are)****
This image is the first one I ran across that snapped me right out of Tami Farrell obsession mode. The colors are startling to say the least – I won’t even go into the costumes – but what really had my brain and soul ill-at-ease is the artificiality of the top right photo. Is there a “Bratz Doll” setting in Photoshop?

Little did I realize that the Bratz Dollitization of young pageant entrants is the status quo. I saw listings for “Porcelain Doll Pageants” and hundreds of these creepy Photoshopped images that attempt (successfully I might add) to suck all the humanity out of these little girls. (If you can take seeing a larger version, just click on the image)
I’m gonna take this opportunity to out myself as a straight male celebrity gossip blogger, only because I fear that might be why this freaks me out. (Not because I’m a celebrity gossip blogger, but the other stuff) I’m not sure if I hope that’s why or not.

I must say, as a pageant mother myself, some mothers are in the pageants to be the best and to make them selves look good b/c they are either over weight or were probably picked on in high school and wanting their children to be “super”
But there are other sides to the pageant industry!
ALOT of these kids TRUELY ENJOY the pageants and the parents are there with their children FOR their children…
I am a mother of a HANDSOME little boy who absolutely LOVES entering into pageants… And I see LOTS of little girls who LOVE it as well! There are DEFINATLEY more kids enjoying it rather than parents forcing them to enter into them!
creeeeeeepy!
As a mother of a 4 year old girl this kind of stuff is truly disturbing. What kind of parent would allow their little girls to be pimped out to look provocative?
What ever happened to a healthy childhood where the kid can grow up and play and not be subject to their parents weird obsession?
People who do this to their kids should be shot.
Actually, I think it freaks you out because kiddie beauty pageants are totally sick sh*t–entertainment for mothers who don’t quite know the difference between children and dolls, and pederasts….
What’s sad is everyone is surprised when no one thinks of them as little girls anymore and something bad happens even though that’s what these pagents and their pyscho parents took away from them; i see them and my first thought is “creepy doll come to life” or midget grown up….Love your stumbleupon page!!! That sh*t scares the crap out me. If you want to know how to turn your daughter into a prostitute when she gets older, watch these shows.
