Taylor Swift On The May 2009 Cover Of Seventeen Magazine

Taylor Swift on the May 2009 cover of Seventeen Magazine

I was on a 2 a.m. Ginger-O‘s run to the grocery store when I noticed this compositional orgy in the checkout lane. I couldn’t believe that the Magic Eye stereograms were back! I immediately snatched it up and began crossing my eyes.

(In case some of you starcasm readers don’t remember the Magic Eye books, what you do is you stare at this magazine cover with your eyes unfocused and eventually the image of Taylor Swift will emerge. Don’t believe me? Try it, It works! She’s in there!)

(See if you can count as many indications in this post that I’m getting old as I did. I’m half a step away from shaking my fist and yelling, “Kids these days! With their colors and their words! This magazine doesn’t even need an inside!”)

But, it does have an inside, and it includes an interview with Taylor that has quotes that have been encoded so that people over the age of twenty can’t understand them. For example:

“I mean, I can’t wish I hadn’t written a song about someone, because if I hadn’t, that song wouldn’t exist.”

Eh? Whud you say lassy?

“Right now, my favorite thing to write about is love. And breakups. And boys. And feelings.”

I’m gonna eat my Paul Newman cookies, watch Andy Griffith and go quietly into the night.
