Bailey and Jay from True Life’s “I’m Relocating for Love”

The most recent installment of MTV’s True Life documentary series dealt with couples who relocated for love, and most viewers were a bit perplexed by Bailey Mosier and Jay Reynolds. How did they get together? Why did Bailey love him so?

The service of the television show, which featured two other couples, focused on the fact that Bailey was a recent grad-school graduate from Arizona ready to jump into the drying up pool known as the journalism industry. She’d been seeing Bailey for over a year, and had met him in Austin, where he lives.

At the top of the show Jay emotionally manipulates Bailey into moving to Austin while he’s eating in a restaurant with her parents. Blame the MTV producers all you want, but the words came out of Jay’s mouth.

His emotional blackmail worked, and Bailey shut away a great deal of her own desires and moved to Austin to be with Jay. It seemed she was barely two feet in the door (I exaggerate, but it really wasn’t that long) before Jay unloads an interesting piece of information: he’s gone so far into debt that he’s going to be renting out his apartment and moving into his parents house. Oh, and Bailey can come stay in the ‘rentless’ basement too! It’s gonna be great!

Bailey cried and then made the right decision, decided to high-tail it back to Arizona! She’s since posted an update that she and Jay broke up a month after she got out of Dodge, but they still talk and stuff. She complained that he wasn’t making time for her because he was “traveling with Monty.” What? the guy who can’t leave Austin and has severe credit card debt is traveling?

So, even though they aren’t together, Bailey still expresses the desire to be with Jay, and hopes to one day move to Austin so they can be together:

Bailey’s affection for Jay can’t be denied, but all this is still a bit perplexing. Jay seems like a shady sort of dude, and Bailey seems like a pretty, smart girl, but it all starts to sort of (not really) make sense when you find out what their main interests are. What is that business that Jay started? What are these “opportunities” he speaks of?

It turns out that Jay is attempting to make a living with some sort of golf instruction business called Scoring Solutions Austin, and also writes for Avid Golfer magazine. And guess what? Bailey is a golf journalist who just happens to be an editor at Avid Golfer!

A woman will move, put up with shady business deals, be ignored, and endure many other kinds of heartaches and indecencies just to be with a mate who shares her interests.

It also looks like back when Bailey and Jay were still tryin’ to make it work they started a blog and Twitter account together about golf! Awww! The blog/site isn’t in existence anymore, but there is still the Twitter remnant of their shared dream: BayandRayGolf.

Jay’s Scoring Solutions might not be working out as planned, because as of right now he’s working for a musician named Monte Montgomery (hence all the traveling that prevented him from making time to see/ talk to Bailey).

Here’s a little promo vid Jay and Monte made together:
