Derick Dillard speaks out against Jazz Jennings: ‘Transgender is a myth’

Counting On’s Derick Dillard struck out against fellow TLC star 16-year-old Jazz Jennings, and all transgender people in general, on Twitter. “What an oxymoron… a ‘reality,’ show which follows a non-reality,” Derick tweeted. “‘Transgender’ is a myth. Gender is not fluid; it’s ordained by God.”

His tweet was reacting to a TLC tweet promoting the new episode of I am Jazz. Someone replied to Derick saying, “Is it necessary for a grown man to throw shade at a teenage girl?” Derick responded to this comment trying to say he has no beef with Jazz, but refused to use Jazz’s preferred pronouns. “I have nothing against him,” he said. “I only have issue with the words and definitions being propagated here.”

“You mean her. Use the right pronoun if you have no issue,” another person responded. The backlash was swift against Derick, with people labeling him “transphobic” and a “bully.”

“Why does it bother you?” someone asked. “Does this affect your life in any way? Let the girl live. Love thy neighbour.”

TLC released a simple statement about the matter: “Derick Dillard‘s personal statement does not represent the views of TLC.”

Jazz Jennings responded to the drama with this subtweet “Every day I experience cyber-bullying, but I keep sharing my story. Today was no different.”

Oh, please, tell us more about life, Derick. Dumbass.

    • CutePuppyGuest

The way he is wearing his hair lately makes me think he thinks he is Jesus coming back. Guess it all makes sense now.

  • Trash TV

That statement is not enough TLC.
Employees who bully their co-workers are to be warned or fired straight away.

    • LoLo

While I agree with that, they are not really “co-workers”. They don’t live in the same state, have the same representation & I doubt they have ever met. I do not agree with his comments or beliefs but I do believe people should be able to have their own opinions even if I find them going against what I feel. I believe let everyone have their own feelings, beliefs & opinions & if we don’t like it or agree we don’t have to support, watch, follow etc.

      • Griffin Mathers

Well, they are part of the “face” of TLC, if that makes sense. Not typical co-workers of course but (and I realize this happened a while ago, this is the first I heard though) they get checks from the same company. One does not need to live in the same state to be a co-worker.

        • LoLo

They don’t know each other, is that better? Most co-workers know each other to be considered co-workers. Otherwise they are just peers.

      • Shody P

Thank you! Counter attacking, that’s like, counter bullieing! We are all protected under “Freedom of Speech”. I may not say something, but that doesn’t mean I’m against it or in favor or it. Our world is moving forward faster than it ever has before. I’m truly thankful the burden and guilt of having to be judge over those I love most has been liftedd from me & replaced by the easiest but the vest best part of all ….. and it’s to love everyone. Why do we have to make things more complicatated than they thave to be?

  • Bob Evans

I’m surprised it wasn’t hateful Jessa and her vile husband. Oh well, Duggar garbage is Duggar garbage. It’s not okay to be transgender but if you violate your own sisters god will forgive you.

    • Kel2707

I was thinking the same thing. Your brother in law molested his sisters and no one speaks on that, but you have issues with a transgender teen. Right

      • Griffin Mathers

That was my first thought as well. The Duggars really do live in a bubble, they are absolutely a cult. A CULT. I have seen a small amount of the damage inflicted by the man who they follow, and it is horrifying. It is really no wonder that they are clueless, but I am lost as to why this guy felt the need to make such an angry, hateful comment.

  • Nicole

I’m happy with her response. I’m not angry with him, that’s exactly how so many people think. Her not being defensive and lashing out is much more likely to help him see her as a person

  • TA

I suppose everyone has a right to their opinion, even if it is hypocritical, and makes you look like a closed-minded a$$hole. ?

  • Lacy

Someone needs to ask him, if God chose people’s sex, then what about people that are born with genitalia of both sexes?

  • ameliaBedelia76

    please Duggars…be quiet

  • smithy jones

Get a haircut, sweetie, or are you transitioning, too?

  • bambiglanville

Well she certainly took the high road. Good for her! And that jerkoff has no leg to stand on. Transgender is a myth? The same could be said about God. Hump that, d!ckard.

  • Aussie cathie

Let me see …your brother in law is a pervert kiddie diddler but that’s ok?

    • LoLo

Did he say it was ok? We can’t assume he’s ok with it. I don’t agree with his beliefs but he has the right to have an opinion even if I’m opposed to it.

      • Aussie cathie

He hides behind gods so called forgiveness yet he is surrounded by vermin who are so filled with hate for others that are different! People that are born gay or in the wrong body are people just like the rest of us! My post was more of a question to him asking if that’s “ok”

        • LoLo

Gotcha. I thought he made a comment saying it was ok. I highly doubt he thinks it is but they are brainwashed from birth to believe a certain way. I see both sides & a part of me feels sad for them as they are not exposed to the world the way we are. No tv, radio etc. They surround their kids with people that believe what they believe so I have a hard time faulting them for how they were raised. I don’t agree with them, their belief’s are how they raise their kids. I just know they are closed minded but that’s due to how they were raised & without exposure to the world they don’t know any better. I’m not defending them, I am just trying to put myself in their shoes. It’s almost like a cult where free thinking is forbidden.

          • Aussie cathie

They are a reconised cult, run by Bill Gothard ! Google that vile grub.

            • LoLo

I agree. Years ago back when it was 14 kids & pregnant, I watched & was amazed at how gentle Michelle was until I read a part of her book where she talks about “blanket training”. Right then, I saw her in a totally different way. So sad. I could never do that.

  • kiki

For as progressive as TLC is, I’m shocked they allow this “family” on their channel. Seems directly against their other shows.

  • Marina Karina

Says the guy who believes in that God impregnated a virgin, who gave birth to a man who was crucified to save him from his sins (Does that include forgiveness for that awful bandana headband look, because that surely is a SIN!), and rose from the dead after 3 days…

    • Griffin Mathers

I wish you didn’t feel the need to talk that way about Jesus. Jesus has done nothing to you or Jazz that is negative. He loves you. You being unkind about God doesn’t help anyone here.

  • Griffin Mathers

WOW. ( I am going to count to ten)
There is so much just sick and sad irony here. Derek’s WIFE was molested repeatedly by her own brother, which still makes me sick at the brother, those bizarre parents, and TLC a bit.
Derek needs to actually pick up a Bible. Deal with the 2 by 4 in your own eye, buddy. And it is indeed disgusting that a grown man, one who has also apparently been caught in many lies about his “job” or lack thereof, but remains on a “reality show” is being so vile to a young person.
I wish I could apologize on his behalf, but life doesn’t work like that. As a Christian who wishes I were a better person pretty much every day and makes my best effort, I hope that Jazz knows that Derek does not speak for people who love Jesus. I feel often that the Duggars have made choices that have – and sorry but I guess I am going to judge him – have made people not want to know God. And here he is, thinking he is a missionary? I just don’t understand the cluelessness and self-righteousness. Man, it is our job to love people. This is not love. This is not how I raise my daughter.
