Mom accidentally lets baby drown while she’s distracted by Facebook

Excessive social media use can take its toll in myriad ways, but sometimes it can have devastating consequences. In the case of 21-year-old Cheyenne Summer Stuckey, too much Facebook led to the death of her 6-month-old Zayla Hernandez.

On June 13, Cheyenne made a bath for her baby girl. She says she left her daughter alone in the water for just a few minutes, but police invegistion into her Facebook Messenger app usage reveals she was messaging two people on the service for about 18 minutes.

According to Cheyenne, she got distracted by another one of her children then started messaging a neighbor who was accusing her of stealing. Police also found discussions about drug paraphernalia on Cheyenne’s Facebook account.

To amplify Cheyenne’s state of distraction while her daughter waited in the bath, there was also a loud TV blaring in the background. Once she realized she’d forgotten her baby it was too late for Zayla. She was pronounced dead at the hospital. The preliminary autopsy results are that she died from drowning.

Cheyenne’s three other children are currently in foster care while Cheyenne is charged with injury to a child and jailed on a $50,000 bond.

21 with 4 kids what. And you never ever leave a child unattended in the bath. Not even for a minute. Never.

I was thinking the same thing. She started very young. Why couldn’t she sit on the toliet and text while her baby was in the tub? Or better yet, give the kid her bath, dry her off, dress her, then get on your phone.

Guess she won’t do that again

Only because she won’t be having her children..

She’s a prime example of somebody who is irresponsible and who should’ve been sterilized. Stupidity must run deep in her family.

Those poor innocent children need to be taken and put into care never to be reunited with this POS!!!

If this was somebody else, I might feel sorry for her. I remember that woman who accidentally left her sleeping toddler in the car because of a change of routine, she forgot she was there and didn’t drop her off at preschool and she died of heat in the vehicle. That was heartbreaking and I don’t think it was intentional.

This, though… this woman sounds like a POS. Drugs, stealing, FOUR children at 21 years old…. Garbage, irresponsible POS who shouldn’t ever be allowed her kids back.

I don’t give two shzt’s about Facebook or any other social media. I see people every single day who are completely tuned out to the world with their face glued to their cellphone. I see them everywhere whether it be driving in traffic, in the grocery store, at a sports event, walking in the park, and literally everywhere else. Each day we get closer and closer to a world like in the movie Idiocracy.

The saddest part about this story is this is not the first time something like this has happened, and it certainly won’t be the last. People prove time & time again they value Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc. more than they value life itself.

Leaving your infant in a tub for 18 minutes, unattended, is not an accident. Impossible. But I guess some people are giving the benefit of doubt first..

She’s 21 and has 4 kids? I guess she didn’t want to work so she dropped each kid for a check. Free food, free medical, free housing, etc.
