Comedian Kathy Griffin apologizes for severed Donald Trump head photo shoot with Tyler Shields

Kathy Griffin

Kathy Griffin is facing harsh criticism for a recent photo shoot she did with famed photographer Tyler Shields in which she is holding a lifelike model of President Donald Trump’s severed and bloody head.

TMZ posted a “Behead the Scenes” video from the photo shoot in which Kathy can be heard joking with Tyler about needing to move to Mexico once the photos are released or otherwise they might have to go to federal prison.

Tyler continued the joking on Twitter and shared a graphic image from the shoot:

Not long after video and images from the shoot were posted online, Kathy was inundated with a social media firestorm condemning her for the photo.

Eventually, Kathy issued a public apology and called for the picture to be taken down. In her apology, Kathy reminded everyone, “I’m a comic,” but admitted she “crossed the line.”

“It wasn’t funny, I get it,” she said. “I beg for your forgiveness. I went too far. I made a mistake, and I was wrong.”

I am sorry. I went too far. I was wrong.

It’s still unclear what the intended use of the photos was — whether they were to be featured in a magazine, on a website, or “just for fun.” Perhaps it was to be the cover of Kathy Griffin’s next book? Who knows?

Numerous celebrities have taken to Twitter to share their disapproval of Kathy’s comments, including many outspoken Donald Trump detractors. Here are some samples from folks like Anderson Cooper and Chelsea Clinton:

Of course Trump’s camp disapproved of the photo as well:

I think we may have finally found something both Democrats and Republicans can agree on: the photo shoot was too much — even under the guise of trying to be funny.

I dont care who you vote for, but depicting a murder of someone is not funny…even for a washed-up comedian. Let alone a sitting president. This isn’t humorous-it’s borderline illegal (death threat

    • YourMom

Especially in the way she depicted it!! Thats what ISIS has/does to r people!! She’s no better than them!

  • Sunquest

Very bad judgment call on her part, I guess we’ll see if Anderson agrees to co-host a New Year’s Eve show with her this year after a totally unnecessary stunt like that. In the past she’s performed for American troops in the Middle East, but those good deeds are negated when you do something like that to the military’s Commander in Chief.

This was disgusting & I believe planned, even the apology. She knew it would offend & that’s the reason she did it. She claimed to “stand by her art” but then took it down & back peddled. I don’t believe for an instance she did not know this would be the outcome.

There’s no way you put something out that graphic and not know you’re going to get splashed with s*it. Home girl gotta stay relevant. I’m not a fan but kind of got a little respect for her commitment to the hustle.

      • LoLo

It would be more of a commitment if she didn’t back peddle afterwards. She said in the video she “stands by her art”. Well, not really.

  • Alexandra

Maybe I should be outraged but I’m not.i literally have not one ounce of respect or regard for that putz.

That’s what I was thinking. I might think it was innapropriate if the head was someone that slightly resembled a human being but not that piece of trash. I don’t see how that could be funny, though, she should have known better.

    • sysmjp

Now, we’re talking. Are we all going to pretend like he’s a real president now? He’s a con man that weaseled his way into office to support his family on the nations teat. That being said, the image did remind me of the sickening ISIL beheadings and THAT should never be a joke.

The same people whining now found it funny when the same things & even worse were done with Obama’s image. Why is is bad only now?

    • Charla

      Exactly.

  • ChelseaHouskasEyebrows

Why is she even still relevant? She’s not funny at all. She’s a d lister at best.

  • Josie

The picture of her without makeup on was just as horrifying. I really can’t stand this lady. How disrespectful.

  • sysmjp

The face in the photo vs the face in the video. Make-up, lighting and air brushing is no joke.

  • DeeDeDee

“Imagine if Conservatives did this while Obama was President.”

The thing is you f*cking nimwit, they did this all the d*mn time when he was President. Multiple sightings of mannequins with Obama masks on them being hung for public gratification.. Even somewhere for little kids to see. Mannequins sat next to signs in front of houses calling Obama a “porch monkey.” Depicting him with a bullet in his head. This picture of Trump is f*cking vile and gross and completely uncalled for. But I really wish people like DT Jr. and his ilk would stop acting like victims.

Kathy needs to take the photographer and Rosie O’Donnell and get the heXX out of my USA. Mr.Trump has an extremely difficult job to do and he’s trying to make the U.S great again. Change does not happen over night. And for her and the photographer to do something like that!!! I say leave. Good riddance
